12 Holy Nights dreams explained, a roadmap

The 12 Holy Nights: here you will learn to explain your dreams through a handy step-by-step plan. The 12 Holy Nights are the nights from Christmas Day on 25 December to Epiphany on 6 January.

Noting and explaining your dreams during these 12 Holy Nights is sometimes even trickier than you think. Therefore, here is a step-by-step plan to help you make your personal advisory 'prediction' for the new year using your dreams.

At my previous blog you can read what the 12 Holy Nights are based on, when they take place and how you can benefit from them psychologically for the coming year.

The dream you have on Christmas night (24 Dec) is the so-called Super Holy Night and reflects the theme in which your new year will be. The dream you have on the first Holy Night (25 Dec) tells you something about the month of January, the dream you have on the second Holy Night (26 Dec) tells you something about February, etc.

So in total, you collect 13 dreams, counting from the night of December 24 to Epiphany on January 6 next year.

Here, on this page, I give you a handy roadmap to easily turn your dreams into practical, consultative guidance for 2020 yourself.

To make it easier, I will briefly use my own nocturnal adventures as an example. Usually, after waking up, you remember fractions of dreams. I write all these down and then analyse them per dream section.

12 Holy Nights Roadmap

Step 1. Put a notebook or notepad next to your bed or a special dream diary. If you choose the latter, I would advise you to write down your dream in draft form first anyway. In my experience, immediately after waking up I have to write so fast to remember everything that it is almost unreadable.

Step 2. Use a dream dictionary to explain the key elements of your dream. An incredibly fine book I like to use is this one dream encyclopaedia.

Step 3. After a good preparation and ditto sleep, it is now time to explain your dreams so that you can relate the psychological 'lessons' behind them to the months ahead.

Funny! In the afternoon, when I read the dream I wrote down early in the morning, I often can't even remember that I had dreamt it. So it is that important - if you want to participate in the 12 Holy Nights dream experiment - to write down your dream immediately after waking up, using keywords if necessary.

After completing the first three steps, I started working on explaining my dreams one day at a time. In the report below, you can see how I filtered out the most striking elements for each dream and interpreted them using the dream encyclopaedia.

Super Holy Night, December 24, 2019

The Super Holy Night representing next year's theme.

A good friend of mine is sleeping, I am staying with her or she with me, it is not entirely clear. She talks in her sleep, but I cannot understand what she says. I do need to pee urgently! The toilet is occupied, so out of necessity I pee on the wooden floor. Disgusting.

Statement

WC occupied/peeing: In a dream, the toilet represents a place where we can quietly do our own thing and release our feelings and emotions undisturbed in privacy. Peeing uncontrollably on the floor, on the other hand, actually represents not being able to control your emotions. So this is one thing to keep an eye on in 2020. Be cool and keep talking calmly about what is bothering you at all times. Don't bottle anything up, but communicate before the bomb bursts.

I am learning to be a psychologist. My first client is a criminal. I have to assess him behind glass.

Statement

Psychology: Need for good advice and counsel. Since in my dream I myself am the one learning to be a psychologist, this indicates that I need to keep listening to myself carefully in 2020.

Glass: The sheet of glass represents a barrier, a form of self-protection. Because behind it is a criminal I should beware of dishonest people or persons who might harm me for any reason.

Friends of my son have moved to Purmerend and bought a really gorgeous flat here. My mother and I coming to look at it immediately wowed. Impulsively, we buy a similar flat in the same complex. Point blank, we don't feel at home at all and regret it.

Statement

Moving: A house in a dream represents security. Because in my dream I move in headlong, but regret it afterwards, I see this as a warning not to throw away old shoes before I have new ones. Even if the new offer seems so nice, I apparently need to think twice before taking action.

Forecast for 2020 according to Super Holy Night. For me, the theme at stake in the new year is apparently: caution. I need to be cautious about my own emotions, communication, dishonest people, and making difficult decisions. Consider before you begin. Check.

First Holy Night, December 25, 2019

This is already off to a good start. The first Holy Night that according to myth predicts the month of January, I am immediately treated to a nightmare. Bon.

It all starts off quite innocently. Although... I am stealing! In my dream, my daughter (24) is a little girl again. She has the flu and I go shopping. In the shop, I see an old-fashioned walkman lying around. Although I know who this one belongs to - a kid who was just here accidentally left it lying around - I don't hand the thing to the shopkeeper. Instead, I take it with me. For my daughter who is lying at home on the sofa feeling sick.

Statement

Stealing: Taking something without permission, love, money, opportunity or energy, from someone else or yourself.

Daughter: Seeing your own child represents your own innocence. Because my daughter is sick in my dream, it is possible that in January I will become aware of losing my own childlike innocence. Or at least will do things that I know are not OK.

This is related to stealing... I am curious....

Once home, I suddenly ordered a mountain of pizzas, but I have no money. 'Coming tomorrow' says the delivery man. I get to keep the pizzas.

Statement

Pizza: Even in your dream, you are what you eat. So pizza is a sign that I need to pay close attention to my diet in January. One pizza is already not advisable, let alone a whole stack! On top of that, I don't have any money.

Money: Money in a dream does not so much represent literal money, but rather 'value'. The value you place on your own strength or spirituality. Combined with the mountain of pizzas, I expect I will have several weak moments in January with regard to (wrong) food. Point of attention, then.

Suddenly, I find myself in the house of an old acquaintance. Where he had previously decorated his home super sleek and hyper modern, it is now colourful and has a bookcase full of tarot books and art. In the middle of the room is a colourful spiritual tarot image.

Statement

Art: Art in a dream indicates that you need to stimulate your own creativity or implement creative ideas. Since this art is overtly related to tarot, I assume that I will start doing something new with tarot in January or at least think about this.

My sister-in-law is also there. In my bag, I look for a picture of my daughter to show her, but instead I find only a bag of old white balls, mouldy cadets.

Statement

Bag: A bag in a dream represents keeping (wanting to keep) something hidden inside yourself. This can be related to certain plans but also to certain thoughts or feelings. Because I am looking for something but cannot find it, I interpret this as that I need to look for myself especially to find what I really want in 2020.

Old bread: Bread often has a spiritual meaning in dreams. In my dream, the bread is old and mouldy which represents uncertainty about what you need in life and that you may not be doing the right thing, which ties in with my search in the bag.

I am standing in the shower. After I have washed my hair and want to put my bottle of shampoo back on the bath rim from behind the shower curtain, it is pulled out of my hand with a jerk from the other side. Not expecting this - I am home alone, after all - and thus not knowing who this is and thus really freaking me out, I shout with my eyes closed (because shampoo in my eye) "Who the f*ck are you!?

At that point I startle awake and suffer from sleep paralysis. I know I've been dreaming, but can't scream. I hear my husband, who got up before me, watching TV in the living room and want to tell him I had a scary dream, but instead only a hoarse squeak comes out of my mouth.

Good morning.

Statement

Shower/shampoo/hair wash: 'Washing away' negative feelings/thoughts, 'cleaning'(emptying) the head. Since I also have shampoo in my eye, I need to keep my eyes wide open in January regarding my own needs on the mental and emotional front.

Intruder: An intruder in a dream represents the threat to your personal space and privacy. Because in my dream something is snatched from my hands, this is an indication to me that I need to keep a close watch on my personal space and privacy.

Forecast January 2020 according to my first Holy Night, note to self:

Be careful not to lose your innocence, don't steal anything, even figuratively. Not from someone else, but not from yourself either. Take care of yourself and pay extra attention to your nutrition and willpower. Think about a new project related to art and tarot and determine for yourself what you really want and/or need this year. Guard your limits, do what really makes you happy and, if necessary, spend (more) time alone.

I will not bore you with 11 more elaborate dream explanations. What I do hope to have been able to show you with this is how easy it is to interpret your own dreams, which is of course much more interesting for you.

Goodnight and good luck!
