Losing weight over the holidays, tip of the week 38

lose weight for the holidays

You've just started working out, exercising, watching your diet, losing weight and then... there's a period of many visits, birthdays, holidays or other days with lots of food. How can you stay strong during this period when so many delicious snacks are passing by? Do you really have to refuse everything? Some things do, some things don't.

A few tips to get through the holidays responsibly without denying yourself too much. After all, enjoying yourself is also part of life!

  • Really leave alcoholic drinks out as much as possible. Alcohol really contains a lot of calories, as well as stimulating appetite but inhibiting fat burning.
  • Avoid fat as much as possible. (pâté, duck, pork, fried and roasted products) and if possible choose white meat, fish, and (good) carbohydrate-rich dishes such as (wholemeal) bread, boiled potatoes, (unpolished) rice, salad, vegetables, raw vegetables or fruit.
  • Avoid fatty sauces
  • Scoop up small portions
  • Eat slowly
  • Don't eat everything you are offered. When several snacks pass by, choose only what you really crave and not 'for fun'. It is best to say no once in a while.
  • Take a walk after meals or walk the dog.
  • If you are only going to friends in the evening or hosting a dinner party yourself, don't eat much during the day. Breakfast and lunch very lightly and have one light snack in the form of fruit, raw vegetables or a bowl of low-fat cottage cheese.
  • Take a brisk walk before you visit or, if necessary, do a workout if you like to exercise.
  • On the days after the 'sit-and-eat-days', do some extra exercise and eat a little less than you are used to to compensate for your excesses. Those kilos that have unexpectedly gained weight during the holidays will come off in no time.
