Losing weight and shopping, save money AND calories Tip of the week 3

Slimming down and shopping

Losing weight and shopping. If you take the advice below to heart, you will not only save a lot of calories, but also a mountain of money. Win win!

  • Don't go shopping on an empty stomach. Especially when you go grocery shopping with a hungry stomach, everything looks doubly delicious and you are more likely to succumb to 'wrong' food than when you have just eaten.
  • Do shopping every day instead of once a week and also really only get what you need for today and tomorrow morning.
  • Make sure you have picked a recipe beforehand and noted down the ingredients needed. Complete your list for the day before heading out the door. When you complete the shopping list, go straight to your goal and only grab the groceries on your list, you avoid 'impulse buys' that you are more likely to make if you wander around all the shelves without a list.
  • Prefer to go shopping alone. Do you have children? Then do the shopping o much as possible when they are at school (or at daycare). Children like everything. If you give in and get it in the house, it will also be harder for you to leave all those goodies at home.
  • If you do want to get some sweets in the house for the kids, buy the things you don't like at all yourself so the temptation at home is not too great.
  • Spend extra time on the vegetable shelf. Snack carrots, cherry tomatoes, snack cucumbers, radishes, figs, celery. If you dare to look at it differently, this is just like a huge sweet shop.
  • Read the labels of light products. Low-fat? Fat chance it's full of sugars and/or sweeteners. Sugar-free? The lot is full of junk that is so taxing on your liver that it doesn't get around to purifying your blood (its original job).
  • Of course, do the shopping several times a week on foot or by bike (with panniers). That way you'll have had some exercise right away!

Losing weight starts with conscious(er) shopping. What you don't take in you can't eat!
