Slimming down with fish oil. Is that another myth? No way! If you want to lose weight by exercising more, taking fish oil (capsules) can be very beneficial. In general, fish oil is healthy for the body anyway, but it also helps you lose weight!

Fish oil capsules contain the important Omega 3 fatty acids, including

  • EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)
  • DHA (decosahexaenoic acid)

Our body itself makes EPA to a limited extent from the omega 3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid, and from EPA the body in turn makes DHA. Yet almost everyone is deficient in omega 3 fatty acids.

Even if you eat a healthy and varied diet, it is very difficult to get the RDA of this. Moreover, it is also not wise to eat fatty fish (too) often, because fish also contains many contaminants such as mercury and PCBs.

So fish oil in capsule form is actually almost always a good addition to the daily diet. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and improves the condition of the skin. It can also benefit the brain.

Precisely because the brain consists of about 60 per cent fats (and these are the same fats that are also found in fish oil), these fats are very important for proper brain function and concentration.

But how can fish oil contribute to slimming down, to losing (excess) weight?

Fish oil improves the distribution of the nutrients you receive through the blood and reduces the burning of carbohydrates in the muscles because the fish oil stimulates your body's natural fat burning process, which means your muscles have to work a little less hard for this.

So you need less carbohydrates to perform during exercise, leaving more for muscle building.

Partly because of this, fish oil provides a faster metabolism during exercise, which even burns the fat around your waist faster and can also prevent fat storage there even more.

Fish oil therefore increases fat burning. This is why it is also important to keep moving while taking fish oil so that the carbohydrates are also used optimally; as food for the muscles and as a source of energy and for burning calories and fat.

You will also find that when you supplement your daily menu with fish oil, you will have more energy during exercise and less muscle soreness after an intense workout.

Your own body helps you burn fat during exercise, so to speak, saving your muscles!

Make sure you choose fish oil capsules that guarantee purity. Fish oil capsules can also contain harmful substances such as mercury, PCBs and dioxins.

Personally, I choose Omega 3 capsules and not Omega 3-6, or 3-6-9. We actually get enough Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids through our daily diet, provided we eat a healthy and varied diet, of course.

Overdose is not desirable and may even be harmful.

For yourself, it is best to determine which omega fatty acids you need most. Take your own diet into account.
